Which are the top diamond-tracking programs? How do they work? It's more nuanced than you might think. Or, it is just about as nuanced as one might expect from such a complex challenge as being able to trace a diamond throughout the distribution chain.
Now that interest in tracking systems is growing, tech providers are pushing their solutions, which tend to fall into three categories: systems that match the diamond with a digital twin, those that physically mark or analyze the diamond, and those that compile the verified data declarations that users have uploaded about the diamond to a blockchain ledger.
I spoke with key players in the diamond-tracing field to understand their respective approaches for my latest piece published in the August issue of Rapaport Magazine.
This is by no means a complete list, but I believe we covered the main players in the diamond traceability space.
The matchmakers: Diabot, Sarine Technologies, Tracr.
The physical identifiers: Authentia, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), Opsydia, Provenance Proof.
The digital compilers: Diatrace, Everledger, iTraceIT.
